Joe has always suffered from a little bit of anxiety. He can remember as a teenager that panicky feeling he experienced when he didn't know the answer to a question at school. As an adult the anxiety has not gone away and a lot of things play on Joe's mind, usually all at once. Recently it got so bad that he was struggling to catch his breath and his heart was beating really fast. Joe did some research online and he thinks it was a panic attack. Joe wants to tell someone but he doesn’t know how to open up and talk to his friends which makes matters worse. He often drinks to mask the feeling. Joe spends lots of his time looking at things online at how to reduce the symptoms but nothing really works as good as the drinking.
Anxiety is a common reason for entering therapy. If you feel a bit like Joe in certain situations then talking about those situations with someone like a therapist could be useful for you.
